Prof. Dr. Thomas Macho, is professor of cultural history
and director of the Institute for Cultural Studies at the Humboldt
University in Berlin. He studied philosophy, musicology, and
education. In a vast number of publications he has explored
how metaphors and images of death change historically and interact
with the socio-political aspects of how death is approached
and dealt with, including for example the current problem of
death’s visibility in our society, underworlds, death
masks, or Gustav Theodor Fechner’s The Little Book of
Life After Death.
